A nor’easter is bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the Philadelphia region this weekend, with high waves, beach erosion and flooding expected along the New Jersey and Delaware coasts.

Impacts in the region began Friday, with roadways flooding in Bethany Beach, Delaware, and shore towns in Ocean County, New Jersey.

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill issued a state of emergency beginning 5 p.m. Friday for Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem counties. The State Emergency Operations Center is now active, facilitating communication among state departments and first responders during the weather event.

“I urge all New Jerseyans to take this storm seriously, stay alert, and follow local guidance,” Sherrill wrote in a Facebook post. “We’re prepared and will keep you updated as conditions develop.”
